Responsibilities and Requirements

Our client seeks a talented and experienced Senior VFX Artist to join its dynamic distributed team. This role is pivotal in bringing our game’s world to life with stunning visual effects that enhance gameplay and player experience.

  • Design, create, and implement high-quality visual effects for an ARPG, including but not limited to spell effects, environmental effects, combat effects, and UI animations.
  • Collaborate with the Art, Design, and Programming teams to ensure VFX align with the game’s artistic vision and technical requirements.
  • Optimise VFX for performance without sacrificing visual quality.
  • Mentor junior VFX artists and provide constructive feedback to help them grow and improve their skills.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the studio’s VFX pipeline.
  • Work within the constraints of the Unity engine to deliver visually stunning effects.

About You

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in VFX art for video games, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Unity and its VFX tools.
    • Strong understanding of particle systems, shaders, and post-processing effects.
    • Experience with real-time VFX creation and optimisation.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages such as C# for Unity.
  • Artistic Skills:
    • Exceptional eye for detail and a strong understanding of visual principles such as colour, composition, and timing.
    • Ability to create both realistic and stylised VFX.
    • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of high-quality VFX work in shipped games.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Expertise in industry-standard VFX software such as Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and 3D software like Maya or Blender.
    • Experience with VFX-related plugins and tools, e.g., Houdini, Substance Designer, or similar.
  • Collaboration:
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to work closely with other artists, designers, and developers to achieve the desired effect and ensure a cohesive visual style.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and solve technical challenges related to VFX.
  • Passion:
    • A passion for video games and a deep understanding of how VFX can enhance player experience.

Desirable bonus qualifications include:

  • Experience working on ARPGs or similar game genres.
  • Prior experience with AR and VR technologies.
  • Knowledge of other game engines and their VFX tools.
  • Experience with motion capture and integrating VFX with animation.
